1-Day: ARK-J Program Trismus Intervention: Australia (AEST)

We are excited to further your professional development regarding head & neck cancer trismus induced evaluation & treatment. 

The course is aimed to address and provide tools, evaluation protocols and critical decision making skills when working with this population. 

It will be taught on one day only AEST time zone to accommodate our Australia SLPs.

Learning Outcomes

1. Participant will be able to explain the SLPs Role in Trismus Intervention. 

2. Participant will be able to explain trismus after brain injury and proper interventions.

3. Participant will list the components of pathophysiology of HNC Trismus. 

4. Participant will be able to explain salvage trismus. 

5. Participant will be able to complete a comprehensive trismus assessment.

6. Participant will be able to explain and apply exercise science principles in trismus intervention to develop a progressive treatment plan. 

8. Participant will be able to complete 3 manual treatment approaches for trismus. 

9. Participant will be able to complete passive ROM for the patient with trismus.

10. Participant will be able to list 4 device options for the treatment of trismus. 

11. Participants will be able to assemble and ARKJ SD device for the treatment of trismus. 

Content Disclosures

This course will teach users how to build a non-patented DIY ARKJ SD device and we will discuss other options in a limited manner.

Module 6: Applying Exercise Science Principles in Trismus Intervention

Covers: PROM and active ROM 

Module 7: Manual Treatment Approaches for Trismus with Hands on Learning and Passive ROM Exercises

Covers: Manual Therapy and Intraoral work

Module 8: Case Studies and Counseling  

Covers behavior modification

Module 9: Creating the ARKJ SD Device

BIO

Lauren Meffen is a speech language pathologist with a passion for working with voice and swallow disorders. She has remained local to Gainesville after receiving her schooling with Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Florida. Lauren has worked in a variety of settings including hospital, skilled nursing, home health and has now found her heart belongs in the outpatient setting. Here she can provide a high level of individualized and quality care for each patient and family. 

Over the years, she has developed a love and specialization in working with the oncology population. She has advanced training in management of lymphedema of the head and neck, trismus therapy, muscle tension dysphonia, and myofascial release techniques. She strongly champions a comprehensive approach toward treating the whole patient, with the involvement of a skilled, multi-disciplinary team.

Refund Policy

Head & Neck Rehab LLC reserves the right to cancel an event due to low enrollment or other circumstances which would make the event non-viable. Should circumstances arise that result in the postponement of a registration or event, registrants will have the option to either receive a full refund or transfer the registration to the same course at the new future date.

Registration Cancellation by Participant

Registration cancellations received prior to the course start date may be eligible to receive a full refund. The participant or credit card holder must make the refund request. Registration cancellations must be received at least 3 business days before the start of the course.
